Caring for Women at All Stages of Pregnancy
A woman’s body goes through a lot during the process of pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Our team here at South Riding Family Chiropractic Center is expertly trained and certified to care for women at any stage of pregnancy so their bodies can handle the stressful changes naturally with more comfort and ease.
Prenatal Techniques We Use
We use a type of prenatal care called the Webster Technique that is designed specifically for the pregnant woman. Through this unique adjustment, we have the ability to restore full balance to the pelvic joints, musculature, and ligaments in order to create an environment that allows for an easier more natural delivery process.
The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association defines the Webster Technique as:
“A chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces nervous system stress and potential intrauterine constraint by improving pelvic muscle and ligament function which can reduce torsion to the uterus and allow the baby to get into the best possible position for birth.”
How does the Webster Technique help during pregnancy?
The mother is adjusted in a specific manner while also receiving a massage around the targeted ligaments to relieve muscle tension and any misalignments in the pelvis.
What exactly does the Webster Technique do?
The goal of these adjustments is to reduce the effects of sacral misalignments or S1 joint dysfunction, while also balancing pelvic muscles and ligaments.
Can the Webster Technique help turn a breech baby?
There is never any guarantee because everyone’s body responds differently; however, this technique helps to create space around the uterus giving the baby ample room to turn and optimizes the opportunity to get in the proper position for birth. This technique has proven it facilitates the correct environment to allow the birthing process to proceed as it naturally was created during pregnancy.
Why would a pregnant mom choose the Webster Technique?
Because it’s an all-natural, safe technique that helps relieve all joint pain related to pregnancy including pain in the lower back, buttocks, and legs. It works to reduce the time for labor and delivery as well as C-sections while minimizing pain during labor and delivery, making it easier for the mother during the birthing process. Also, it promotes the likelihood of a full-term pregnancy.
How well does it work?
According to research, the Webster Technique has a success rate of 85% when turning a breech baby, compared to an external cephalic version (ECV) that experiences only a 35% success rate.
Webster Technique helps the S1 joints. Where are the S1 joints located?
The S1 joints make up the triangular shaped bone at the bottom of the spine, known as the sacrum. These joints connect the spine to the pelvis.
This technique allows for maximum space giving the baby optimal room for movement and growth while also helping decrease the chance for C-section or breech birth. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is powerful for both the mom and baby with benefits that are foundational to their health. Dr. Francesca Lovaglio and Dr. Rosa Lovaglio are both certified and extremely proficient in the Webster Technique and would be happy to see if it’s just what your body needs.
